A summer fashion shoot!

That summer feeling

It was a fabulous hot summers day and my daughter gave me a wonderful uplifting make over! We decided to defy the dreaded fifties and go for a ‘ feeling fab in your fifties vibe’. She transformed my skin and highlighted my best features and I then put these looks together using my new found knowledge from my ‘Professional Styling’ course, which I have almost completed. Check out the looks below. I felt proud to be in my fifties!

To begin with I carried out a colour analysis to ensure I had the correct shades of colour for my summer outfits. I am a ‘winter with summer and autumn highlights.

A beautiful combination of colours for a ‘winter with summer and autumn influence’ These colours will help to bring out my complexion.

I then ascertained that I am a ‘petite hourglass’. This means I have a defined waist and proportioned shoulders and hips, a feminine shape that’s easy to dress. My style goal was to highlight curves instead of hiding them and emphasise the waist. It helps to have a celebrity muse in mind such as Salma Hayek, who is also a petite hourglass.

Petite hourglass body shape

The first outfit I styled, highlighted below draws attention to the waist. It’s a two piece broderie skirt and blouse. I tucked in the blouse to ensure I emphasised the waist, as leaving it out, would have created a boxy shape. The short skirt accentuates the legs. The colours are chosen from the colour palette above and bring out the eyes.

I love the frills on this two piece outfit

The puff sleeves further accentuate the smaller waist and the fit and flare skirt prevents the outfit from being too fitted and creates a soft but defined silhouette. The neckline although high is left open to create a longer neck and to avoid the frills from creating a top heavy look.

The fit and flare of this white broderie dress complements my hour glass figure, which is further emphasized with a belt. I did not want to show my arms and this dress achieved that by making the sleeves a feature. The outfit is completed with black, accessories.

These two outfits show that one is never too old to experiment with clothes. The first outfit concentrates on showing off the best features ie my legs and the second highlights the waist. This outfit is a two piece so can get extra mileage as the top would also look great with jeans and flat shoes or sandals for an evening summer look. The skirt can be dressed down with a simple white tee shirt or a white shirt and would look great with white trainers, which are a huge fashion trend this summer! I felt that a small print was better for me, with me being petite, as it didnt over power me, yet added a great deal of interest to a broderie out fit.

Feeling floaty!
The perfect dress for lazy summer days worn without a belt but made for petite frames

The next shoot shows a beautiful soft floaty summer dress, which has been accessorized with a floppy hat. This dress can be belted to accentuate the waist but as it’s in a petite size, it prevents the figure from being overwhelmed.

Creating a pop of colour

This knitted fit and flare dress skims over the figure, softly setting out the petite hourglass. The knit of the fabric creates drama.

A lovely dress emphasising the waist
Another pop of summer colour.

I wanted to create a glamorous evening summer look and this dress fitted the bill perfectly! The royal blue sets off the eyes and complexion, whilst the feather trimmed bardot neckline frames the neck and shoulders. The bodycon cut of the dress accentuates the waist and the hemline sits just above the knee, elongating the legs. The nude shoes have a lengthening affect too.

Such a wonderful day, spent styling these looks.
